The Taming of the Do
The weather is always a problem for my hair when I travel. Before I tame it with a blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron, my hair usually looks like a frizzy hot mess...not pretty. Different parts of the world have their own climate and you may think you're prepared for it but you never truly can be until you get there and experience it. How do I keep my hair looking purrdy? Well, thankfully I've become less hair challenged and have found different ways of styling it so I'm not an embarrassment when I go out.
Here is one of my go-to hair styles for when I was in Brazil (I unfortunately didn't know how to do this when I was in Egypt so headbands saved me there). I call it the French Twirl. It probably has an actual name that I'm just not aware of. I figured out how to do this while attempting to do a french braid...my fingers kept getting twisted with each other and it was a disaster! Then my fingers did this and it worked out fabulously! I'm working on my french braiding skills so we'll call this a prelude to what's to, hopefully, come. Just follow these simple steps and you can have a Twirl too!
1. Part your hair however you like |
2. Take two pieces of your hair and pull the front piece over the second piece
3. While holding both pieces of hair, pull in more hair to the strands on top. You will always be adding hair to the group that is on top |
4. Pull the bottom strands over the top and continue adding more hair and switching as you continue |
5. Once you're Twirl is to your desired length, add bobby bins or a small elastic to hold the hair in place |
And you're done! You can finish it off by leaving your hair down or pulling it into a bun, pony tail, or making the twirl long enough so that it goes to the back of your head and continuing it into a regular braid. There's a lot you can do with this hair style! |
It's wicked easy once you train your fingers and can be a life saver when you're having a hair crisis! This is just one of the styles that saved me while I traveled... |
How do you do your hair when you travel? Let me know!
