Wacky Wednesdays with Jenbiff

Museums are For More Than Just Rainy Days

For those of you who like to complain that there is never anything to do around your hometown, I say hodge posh! Believe it or not there are actually quiet a few museums, historical homes, and beautiful parks/scenic areas in non-city places scattered around the world. Now if you’re even going to try and argue that all of these places are even more boring than sitting through another lecture on the Revolutionary War, stop and think: “When was the last time I even went to any of these places?” I was never really a big fan of any of them, but recently I realized they’re actually very interesting, maybe more so because I’ve sat through so many lectures.

Entrance to the Mass MoCA

Last week for my birthday, my boyfriend and I went to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, or the Mass MOCA. And no, this museum was not located in Boston, Cambridge or Worcester. It’s located in a small cow town close to the Vermont and New York borders called North Adams. I am fully aware that I live in pretty decent sized no-named town in western ma, but I now take that back…North Adams in literally in the middle of no where (Don’t believe me? Check it out on a map!).

They look like snow men!

Anywhosers, back to the Mass MOCA. Because there are so many old factories and mills in the area, the Mass MOCA took over one of these rundown buildings. They house a few different artists at a time, and do not have any permanent collections. The museum starts you off in a bunch of small galleries about the common laborer. On the second and third floors the topics varied, but the pieces were huge, taking up whole rooms! But I don’t think I will be able to describe any of the beauty so here are a bunch of pictures:

Canned laughter. Would you like the evil, sexy or manly?

Can you find me?
Doesn't it look like it's spelling out "why"

Quote of the week: "Art is not an 'object', it is a 'work', which implies a system of relations. In this system, the object stops being something already known, and becomes new knowledge."
Answer to last week: Victoria Beckham
