Some time around April or May I started bugging my mom about getting a dog. My Dad hurt his knee and had to get it replaced so in my mind the best way to get him up and moving again would be to have a little furry friend that would need to be taken out on walks. They could walk each other and it would be PERFECT! Well...Momma Maguire didn't exactly agree. Since then I kept mentioning different reasons why a dog was needed in our house...for protection...for exercise...and to be able to use all those dog coupons I see whilst clipping them. There were numerous solid and valid points that I made but still she didn't budge. One weekend though I swear pigs flew and it rained cats and dogs because my Mom FINALLY caved. We brought Stella (name taken from the famous play 'A Streetcar Named Desire') home from the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, MA two days later.
Now one thing you must understand is that we have not had a dog in this house since I was maybe five so we are not very experienced with these lovable pets. Sure my Dad had a dog when he was little and I had one when I was little but that was a VERY long time ago. Since I'm somewhat new to this I thought that every now and then I'd share some fun facts and tips that I've learned.
In cartoons you'd always see a dog chewing on a bone or a shoe...that whole chewing on a shoe thing is no joke with Stella! I made the mistake of wearing my sweater shoes outside with her and she went nuts! They were nice and easy for her to sink her teeth into...lesson learned and those shoes will not be worn around her again!
poor poor sweater shoes...you will be worn less now |
Puppy Snuggie!!! Greatest invention EVAA |
Halloween shirt...I wanted a really fun costume but since she's gonna grow I figured it wasn't worth it yet |
Stella and me <3 |
This is definitely a learning process and I can't wait to share my experiences with everyone!
Do you have any tips for new dog owners? I'd love to hear them so let me know!!!
