Thirsty Thursday's With Vicki

 A Touch Of Reality

For this week, I had planned on writing my post about what was supposed to be a fabulous fun Halloween weekend. Unfortunately, like many others across the East Coast, this past weekend was not your typical trick or treating, jack-o-lantern making, costume party festivity. It was a weekend filled of a few things…up to a few feet of snow, families with no heat or power, and just tragedy everywhere.

Thankfully, I’m one of the luckier people who got their electricity back on Tuesday night. But, not having power for three days, really was an eye opening experience!

Even though Mother Nature sure was not on our side this past weekend, I still tried to make the best out of the situation. Just like everyone else, I was stuck at home enjoying some family bonding time. I can't even tell you the last time this happened.  Our lovely family bonding time involved  several games of Sequence, and some Halloween festive drinks!

some killer Halloween Drinks!

The best strategy game ever!!!
My mom and I made a great team that night!

We'll never forget that night. It was a fun night we all had together, but also a scary one. All we heard was “crackle…crackle…boom!!!!” And the next morning outside in my back yard all we saw was this...

Just One area of my backyard with trees down...

As many know it's been chaotic everywhere! Wires and trees on streets, houses, cars, driveways...everywhere! Some neighborhoods completely impossible to drive through. We all appreciate the abundance of emergency vehicles, gas & electric companies, tree companies, and police officers. My family was very fortunate that our house, and our vehicles had no damage. Unfortunately though, for the next three days we were stuck without power. During that time..these were my lifesavers!
Dunkies line was over an hour
long on Monday! NUTS!

My family's only source of heat in the house
for three days. I'm glad for this sucker!
My dad's spot for a few days!

This guy helped alot when I had to go
in my room in the basement. It was like a cave!
It’s been a time that I’ve truly appreciated my family and my friends. Some friends who got their power back just shortly after they lost it, let me crash at their home, enjoy a nice warm bed, and enjoy a hot shower. Oh the luxuries!

Thanks Nick for everything!

Courtney's family was lucky to have a generator. Let's
hope she gets her power back soon!
It's crazy how much we rely on certain necessities. For a hot shower? I drove a town away to shower at my gym (along with many other members). To pick up batteries, water, or a chain saw? Close to impossible! Fill up on gas...a 30 minute to an hour wait! Who would've thought! Like my dad said it's like the 70's!

The best part about getting away from the area, and into the heat was a trip to Foxwoods!!! On Tuesday night, I went on a mini road trip with four other friends for some gambling, drinks, and heat! I was pumped I won some cash! But even happier when I got the text from my mom saying our power was back on.

What I brought home!
Overall, I’m so blessed to have power back on at my house. I could care less about cable and internet, I’m just happy I am in a warm house with a hot shower, a way to make food, and lights! Again, I really feel for those who currently don’t have any of the luxuries that my family is blessed to have at the moment. I hope that all those that this storm effected have their power working again soon! Good luck and stay warm..considering winter came quick!

Check out my post next week to hear about my rescheduled "Halloween weekend!" and recipes for some spooky-liscious drinks!
