Thirsty Thursday's With Vicki

I Love New York

Two week's ago, I traveled from Philly to NYC to meet up with my friend Kate for the weekend. I met Kate 2.5 years ago when I studied abroad in London, England for the semester. She attended AIU with me in London, and we both lived in the same apartment complex. Over the two month span of time that we were in  the country of England, we got very close! We've stayed in contact since we came back to the states, but it's been very difficult finding time to get together. I'm so glad we finally had the opportunity!

Since I arrived into the city so late, it was difficult to find a restaurant to eat dinner at that didn't require an hour wait. We finally found this Mexican Restaurant called Mexican Mama Centro. This was the first restaurant in NYC where I had my share of understanding of how expensive restaurant prices actually are in NY. Even though the price of my chicken & cheese quesadillas and margarita was hefty, it still hit the spot.

Mexican Mama Centro is located on 47 E 12 Street (Between Broadway & University Pl)

After dinner, we joined some friends for a Happy Hour at a bar named McFaddens. Back home here in MA, happy hours are actually illegal, sadly. And being in NY with drink prices ranging between $8-$15 for a cocktail, having a happy hour is one of the best pre-gaming ideas ever! McFaddens was a great place to get half off on drinks, stare at some good looking bartenders, and dance (apparently on the bar). I would admit, it was more of a "fratty" kind of bar with bartenders who thought they were casted from Jersey Shore, but it was still a good start to my three day weekend with K-bell!

McFaddens is located on North East Corner of 2nd Avenue at 42nd Street

Saturday morning, the first place Kate & I went to was The Museum at FIT to see the Counselors of Fashion Designer of America (CFDA) Exhibit. There were over 100 garments & accessories designed by the CFDA from the past 50 years on display for all to see until April 17th, 2012.

FIT Museum is located 227 West 27th Street

Next, we did some shopping at Barney's Warehouse Sale!!! Even though it was a sample sale, and prices were up to 70% off on some items, neither Kate nor I could still find it in our hearts to pay $200 for a dress that was $500 full price.

We found this adorable baby's sweater. Too bad it was still $109 haha
After the warehouse sale Kate and I went down to the High line. The High Line is a public park built on a historic freight rail line, and is owned by the city. Friends of The Park is a non-profit organization that works to maintain the original presence of the park. The High Line reaches parts in Chelsea, Meatpacking District, Clinton, and West Side Rail Yards. It's a great place to check out events, take a walk and see the port, and eat lunch with a friend.(thehighline.org).

For lunch we went to Boqueria, a Spanish Tapas Bar. It was my first time to a Spanish Tapas Bar, and Oh my goodness was it amaze-balls!!! I can’t wait to go back. The best way I could describe it other than pure deliciousness is that it’s basically mixing ingredients you would never expect to sound good together. For my meal I had the Cojundo (Fried Quail Eggs and Chorizo on Toast). Everything looked absolutely amazing!

For an afternoon snack, we ventured over to the famous Magnolia's Bakery in West Village. If you’re a Sex & The City addict like myself, you would understand the excitement I felt when I walked into this bakery. If you’re not, you wouldn’t know that a scene from SATC was filmed at the bakery. Not only is it awesome that Miss SJP was filmed in front of this delicious cupcake shop, but it was also featured on SNL, and in The Devil Wears Prada.

Located: West Village, 401 Bleeker Street

And then look what we found....

Little Miss Bradshaw's apartment from SATC!!!There's the infamous steps, and door that we saw throughout all six seasons of the series. Seeing this location made my life complete!

On Saturday night, we took a cab down near Time Square to Tobacco Road Piano Bar. Every Friday & Saturday night there is a Dueling Piano Show, and we were lucky enough to attend this comical event. Until 2 am. there are two pianists that take song requests playing any kind of music that comes to mind. Requests for songs were going all the way up to $50! For us though, all we paid was our $6 to get in, bought our two drinks, and enjoyed the show.

Tobacco Road Piano Bar is located: 355 West 41st Street & 9th Avenue

Sunday morning we went for brunch at Delicatessen, an international comfort food restaurant. If you know me, you would know that I would eat brunch every meal of the day if it was possible. So of course, I ordered some belgium waffles, scrambled eggs, a big glass of chocolate milk, and onion rings. Kate ordered Mac & Cheese: The Classic (Elbow macaroni, elbow, and cheddar) which is what the restaurant is best known for on their menu.
Delicatessen is located on 54 Prince Street (Between Mulberry & Lafayette)

After breakfast, and some much needed shopping on Broadway, we went over to the new location of Georgetown Cupcake. Georgetown Cupcake also known as DC Cupcakes to you fellow TLC viewers, just built a new location in Soho a few weeks ago. Not only did Kate and I get a chance to try the delicious cupcakes Georgetown Cupcakes had to offer, but we also had a chance to meet the owners Sophie & Katherine. What a great way to end a vacation huh?!

Georgetown Cupcakes is located at 111 Mercer Street between Spring & Prince

Now talk about an awesome trip to NYC!!! I can't wait to go back to the big city to visit Kate!
