Oldies but Goodies

Oh my goodness bloggers! I totally had a brain fart and forgot to post yesterday! I'm sorry for those of you who are eagerly waiting for the Oldies of the month...so let's not waste any more time and get started!

Gone with the Wind (1939)
Starring: Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, and Thomas Mitchell
Scarlett O’Hara is so sick of everyone talking about war. All she wants to do is spend time with the love of her life, Ashley Wilkes. But instead he marries his cousin, Melanie! Absolutely devastated, Scarlett tries to come up with a plan to get Ashley to marry her instead before he goes through with it. At Ashley’s parent’s party, Scarlett sees this as a last chance to beg him to marry her. Begging him fails and after he storms out of the room Scarlett meets Rhett Butler, a man from the north who is very rebellious compared to all the other southern gentlemen. That same night the Civil War begins, and all the men run to sign up. Before one young man, George Reeves, runs off to sign up he asks Scarlett if she would marry him. Upset that Ashley didn’t choose her, she says yes, hoping to make Ashley jealous. Their marriage does not last too long because unfortunately he is killed in action. While Scarlett is supposed to be in mourning the women of the town hold a benefit to raise money for their soldiers and she goes to support them. While most of the people at the benefit are surprised to see Scarlett out while she is in mourning, Melanie defends her saying she is even stronger for actually going out. But Rhett, who is also at the benefit, knows that Scarlett is neither strong or actually in mourning for her late husband. As the war moves closer and closer to their town, more and more people leave to go somewhere safe. But Scarlett, in her traditional stubbornness refuses to leave her home. As the war moves into town, she is faced with the new challenge of having to provide for herself and the few family members and slaves left behind. Will she be able to handle the changing times? What sort of twisted things will she do? And will she ever get Ashley all to herself?
*Side note: this is an extremely long movie, but all the fashions and the story line make it totally worth it!

The Circus (1928)
Starring: Charlie Chaplin, Merna Kennedy, and Al Earnest Garcia
The circus is in town! While trying to get a good look at the fun house, a young man is mistaken for a pick-pocket when a mysterious wallet (full of cash!) ends up in his pocket. Not wanting to get in trouble with the police man who is chasing him, he finds the man who lost his wallet and gives it back to him. During the chase the young man and the police officer run right into the middle of a circus act before running off again. Seeing the crowd loving this surprise, the ring leader decides he needs to get this young man to come back. Will the ring leader be able to convince him to work for the circus? What silly things will he get mixed up in now? And what about the ring leader’s daughter?
*Side Note: If you’re looking for something funny, but short this is a really good movie to watch. It’s only 71 minutes long (that’s right…an hour and 11 minutes!).*

The night they went to rob the jewelry store, everything goes off perfectly, until the explosion sets off neighboring alarms, which brings the police. Will they get caught? Will everyone do they’re part? Will anyone try to run off with all of the diamonds?
