Thirsty Thursday's With Vicki

Save The Tata's-Work Out Week # 2
For this second post on Health & Fitness, I’ll tell you a little bit about the Kick Boxing, Zumba, and Boot Camp classes I enjoy taking. Obviously, every gym or studio may have their own take on these classes, but I’ll just give you a little back ground on what each class entails.
Kick Boxing: This is a 60 minute class that includes a lot of cardio using both upper and lower body muscles. This class involves using boxing movements with arms and legs as well as some martial arts. You legit don’t stop moving the entire class. The instructor loves to blast the music in our class to get us pumped, and when you’re not doing some type of move, you should be doing high knees. For the last 20 minutes of the class, he always does floor work which involves working your abs, butt, thighs, hips, and legs. It’s pretty intense but is a great workout for your whole body.

Above is a video from YouTube I found on Kick Boxing. This is not the exact workout I do in my Kickboxing class but will give you an idea of some of the basic moves. If you want to you can even follow it for a full on workout.

Zumba: Involves using Latin, hip hop, and International music all in one workout. You’re basically just dancing the entire time, while toning your body and burning away so many calories. Since I love to dance, this is a healthier alternative to hitting up the clubs (considering none of those sugar fruity drinks are involved). Zumba is so popular at the moment that there are DVDs you can dance to, classes are offered all around the country in different forms (Aqua Zumba, Zumbatonic, Zumba Toning, and many more). It’s so popular even concerts are offered! Check out, http://www.zumba.com/en-US/ if you want to know more about this fun exercise.

Above is a video from You Tube I found that gives an introduction on the Zumba DVDs. You can see some of the basic moves you can learn in a class on this exhilerating exercise.

Boot Camp: Since, I’ve only attended this Boot Camp once, and I hope I get up the courage to go again, I can only tell you about a first time experience. This class again, is a 60 minute class that’s offered at Healthtrax. It's great for someone looking to train for a race, or looking to lose some serious weight ( I dont fit either categories haha). This class involves a combination of weights and cardio. There are three different sections which are 20 minutes long. Each section there is 4 different exercises, which you do for 1 minute long. Each must be done 3 different times. Between each exercise, you also do some type of cardio for 1 minute.

Above, is a You Tube video I found which allows you to understand how intense Boot Camp classes actually are. This one's only 10 minutes, imagine being in class for 60!!!

I think the hardest exercise for me was when we had to do lunges for a minute straight while raising a dumbbell. We also had to do “burpies”, which involves starting off standing, then getting down into a pushup position, then back up again. You have to do it fast though to get the whole effect. This class increases your speed, strength, and stamina.
If none of these classes are offered near you, or just don’t interest you there are tons of classes you can take! Throughout different seasons, my gym offers a variety of classes, too many to even name!  If fitness classes are a way for you to get motivated to actually workout, find a gym or a studio that offers them. You can also find workout DVDs, and videos on You Tube so you can work out from home!
