KM Explains it All!

BabyCakes!

For Christmas my parents bought me a BabyCakes maker.  Now, for those of you who don't know what this contraption is, it's a cake ball or pop maker.  It's wicked easy to use and took a lot less time to make than the previous cake balls that I made.  They also make their own mixes so you know exactly what to do but I can't imagine it being too difficult to use regular box cake mixes.
Pictured above is the BabyCakes cake mix, BabyCake maker, and the pop tray.  I plugged the BabyCakes maker in so that it had plenty of time to heat up while I made the mix.
The intructions were fool proof!  You don't need to separate anything, all the ingredients went into one bowl.
The box tells you to be careful not to over mix the batter because that can lead to the pops becoming too tough.  Try and get the larger lumps mixed in the best you can.
Once both lights are illuminated, the machine is ready to go!
Each round of pops only takes about 4 minutes to make which I was very happy with.  I found that filling each spot just a tad under the rim produced the best pops.  Above is what happens when you overfill them...If this happens don't fret!  The extra hardened pieces break off very easily.
There are only 12 compartments and the box will tell you that it makes 24 cake pops however I ended up with more even after overfilling some of the compartments.

My grandmother has one of these and told me to try freezing the pops overnight because they can fall apart in the glaze or chocolate if they're too soft.  She's a smart lady so I took her advice and was glad that I did.
There is also a package inside the box for a chocolate glaze.  I usually just dip them in chocolate but I didn't see the point in wasting the glaze or holding onto it and the box to use later.  The instructions again were fool proof.  The only thing that I did differently was that I continually added hot water throughout the dipping process.  I found that the glaze started to become too thick and pulled the pops right off of the stick.  I also found that because I had more than the box predicted, that there wasn't enough glaze for them all.  Sadly I had to eat them without glaze.
After dunking the pops in the chocolate glaze, I stuck them on the cake pop stand so they would stay round and not end up with a flat side.  I lightly tapped them on the side of the container I was using before placing them in the stand in hopes of getting any extra glaze off.  Since I'm so used to using chocolate I wasn't expecting the glaze to drip as much as it did.  I just used a knife to try and scrap any extra glaze off.  Of course I can't have them plain and needed to add some color to them!

Here's my finished product!  To the left is a cake pops book that my parents also got me for Christmas.  I can't wait to try some of these cute creations!  You'll have to stay tuned to see how those ones come out!
These would make an adorable dessert at a dinner party!
I finally have all the pieces that I need for the DIY project that I had originally wanted to do last week.  Hopefully I have enough time and can get it done for next week because I'm really excited about it.  I'll give you a hint...it involves Mardi Gras beads but has nothing to do with the celebration at all.  Check in next week to see what it is!

Do you have a BabyCakes maker or do you prefer the old fashion way of making cake pops?  Let me know!!!
