Alright, alright I know...the Patriots didn't win (insert sad face here) but that doesn't mean it wasn't a fun day! Mostly I watch the Super Bowl for the half time show, the commercials, and for the food. This year we had people over our house and it was a blast! I even made a dessert which I'll get to in a minute. Here is how I celebrated the Super Bowl.
Stella had to be festive but since dog jersey's were ridiculously expensive and I don't even have a jersey, I opted for a Patriot's scarf which we already had.
Unfortunately Stella became a little less of a woman on Friday and had to wear the "cone of shame" (Up anyone?!). Kind of spoiled the cute look she had going for her.
Here is the first stage of the dessert that I made. I found it on Pinterest and was dying to make it. It's a chocolate chip peanut butter dip. Here is the recipe.
After you mold it into the football shape, cover it with chocolate jimmies to make it look more like a football.
The recipe said you could use frosting or white chocolate to make the laces for the football. I tried the white chocolate and found that it was a little awkward to mold and since I didn't have any frosting I simply placed white chocolate chips where the laces would go.
The recipe also suggested using pretzels to dip into it and let me tell you it was delicious! It tasted almost like a Take 5 candy bar. Very tasty!
Here was our spread for the night. To start off we had the usual crackers with cheese and chips with dip. For the main course we had meatballs, pulled pork, and a giant sub. We still have leftovers in the fridge.
Here are the desserts that were brought. A giant cookie and a cookie dough dip which is also taken from Pinterest. That recipe can be found here and it really did taste like cookie dough. I could have eaten it with a spoon if I was allowed to.
I have two favorite commercials this year. I really liked the Doritos one where the grandma flings her grandchild up to grab the bag of Doritos from her other grandchild.
I also liked the Chevy one where the Apocalypse just occurred and only the Chevy truck drivers survived. Mostly I thought it was funny because they shared Twinkies when they met up and it reminded me of the new Millennium episode of Family Guy where they made their way to the Twinkie factory in Natick, MA after the Apocalypse.
My final thoughts on the Super Bowl regard the half time show. It was better than last year but that's not saying much. Now, in my opinion the show has severely gone down hill. I loved when they had bands like Tom Petty and The Who but last year was absolutely terrible. The Black Eyed Peas performed, if you can call Fergie yelling into the microphone performing. It hurt my ears and it just wasn't anything impressive. This year was better because Madonna's voice didn't make me want to chop my ears off but what was with her entrance? My Dad and all his friends were laughing at how ridiculous it was. It makes me wonder do the directors of the half time show know who their audience is or do they think that it's such a diverse group of people watching they're now only catering to certain groups? I loved that LMFAO made an appearance and that was probably the highlight of the performance for me.
What did you do for the Super Bowl and what are your thoughts on how it went? Let me know!!!
