Wacky Wednesday's with Jenbiff

Chinese New Year

One of the main reasons why I came to visit my parents at this time of year was because of Chinese New Years. I've heard that it was a big celebration and I've always wanted to see it in China. Well let me tell you, I was definitely NOT disappointed. It was so amazing to see all the fireworks, and it was definitely wayyy more than we get for the 4th of July.

Let me give you a little picture of how the first night of New Years went: the sun set around 5:30-6pm and by 6:01 people were setting off fireworks. Let me clarify, when I say set off fireworks I mean it looked like the 4th of July finale. But don't brush this off as nothing...it didn't stop after 5 or 10 minutes because people ran out...it went until 1am! And about 15 minutes before midnight until 1am it was CRAZY! 4th of July finale x3 for at least an hour. It was beautiful! You definitely need to plan your sleep schedule around this holiday, because you will not be sleeping on New Years Eve. I guess one down side was that it's January and is a little cold to be walking around outside to watch all the fireworks, but thankfully we had an excellent view from my brother's room.At this point I wanted to upload a video to show you just a small part of the week, but for whatever reason it just won't upload (insert sad face here)...so here are some pics of the fireworks and more decorations around the city:

People give these red envelopes with money in them as gifts for the New Year

Richard's wife's nails for the New Years

Street vendor selling fireworks

Right in front of the Pearl Tower (a famous landmark of Shanghai)

Outside the Yu Garden where the lanterns were

If I can figure out how to upload the video I will, but for now this will have to do. Sorry everyone!

Ps..."Oldies but Goodies" has been moved to next week this month...don't worry, I didn't forget!

Quote of the Week: "Come here let me hold you
Have I told you lately I love you like crazy"
