Men's Fashion Weeks: London and Milan
*All pictures are from WWD.com
One big difference between women’s and men’s fashion weeks is
that women’s are always a lot bigger. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise
seeing as even people who are not interested in fashion at all know that there
is a fashion week for women in New York and/or
Paris at some
point in the year. The fact that are at least 8 (Spring and Fall RTW, Resort,
Spring and Fall Couture, Pre-Fall, Men’s Spring and Fall) different fashion
“weeks” throughout the year is clearly a minor detail. Anywhosers, maybe because
most American men have little to no interest in fashion, Men’s Fashion Week
means nothing to the average man in America. And it’s not surprising
because men’s fashion is nothing that the average American man would wear.
In the past two weeks, both London
and Milan have
had their Men’s Fashion Week. And some of the looks I never expect to see
a man in my life wearing, while others I wish more men would wear. But regardless of how many men would wear things or not, here are my
fav looks of London and Milan:
London Fashion Week: June 15-17
Topman Design
I had to show you guys some of these designs because of how
crazy they are. I don’t know any man who would wear any of these looks, but
they are so wacky that I actually kinda dig them. Maybe it’s because I grew up
in the 90s, that the wacky prints, colors and shapes of the garments had a
nostalgic feel. Here are my top 3 looks:
Victoria's Secret called. They want their PINK collection back. |

Hackett London
Completely opposite from Topman’s, Hackett London showed
looks that I wish every man wore every day. What girl doesn’t love a man in a
tailored suit after all? But the fact that they were able to take such classic
and stylish suits and use color blocking, pin stripes and perfect piping makes
these suits the new must have for every man…well at least in my opinion it
should be a must have.
Richard James
Pin stripes on tailored suits are def in according to
Richard James (and Hackett London too) and I am so loving it! In Richard James’
collection he had every suit with a little pop of color in the tie, shoes and pocket
square. But don’t think that these suits are only in tradition blacks, greys,
and blues, he created some in bright blues and oranges too! Here are my favs:
Milan Fashion Week: June 22-26
Belstaff
As if I really needed another reason to love military
jackets, Belstaff took traditional men’s military jackets, belted them and made
them a little more fitted. Love. The pants were textured and suede (my absolute
fav). And quite a few looks were sporting huge man bags. Big enough to carry a
small pet or child. Only the best bags are that big.
Dsquared2
A little darker of a line, Dsquared2 took a gothic route
creating mostly black and white outfits. Leather pants, jackets and accessories
mixed with white button downs. Most outfits had a layer of necklaces, bracelets
or broaches. For a darker, gothic look I loved it. Here are my favs:
Gucci
Again, suits were big on the Gucci runway in mints and
oranges. Fun prints also dominated the polos and pants. Double and single breasted
suit jackets were huge, with matching pants in all sorts of bright colors.
Other lines to check out: Roccobarocco, Dolce & Gabbana,
Versace
What do you think of the looks that have come out on the runway so far??
Quote of the Week: “It’s a new era in fashion - there are no
rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end,
low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together”
Last Weeks Answer: Vivienne Westwood
