Oldies But Goodies

Welcome to the New Wacky Wednesdays!! Ok so today's clearly not Wednesday, but I'm still working on a sweet name. I'm thinking Fabulous Fridays, Fun Fridays, Freaky Friday (O wait, that last one is a movie...) Anywhosers let me know what you think! More importantly I just want to let you know that the only thing that's changing about my posts are the day of the week. That being said it's the first Friday of the month and I hope you can put two and two together and realize it's time for some Oldies but Goodies! So here they are:


City Lights (1931)
Starring: Charles Chaplin, Virginia Cherrill, and Florence Lee
A young man lives in a big city, where he meets a young blind woman who sells flowers on the streets. After buying one of her flowers he tries to figure out how to get him to notice her, when he sees a man trying to kill himself. The young man stops him and they decide to celebrate their new friendship, but when they wake up in the morning, the rich man doesn’t remember the young man and kicks him out of his house. Will the young man get noticed by the blind woman? Will the rich man remember the young man?

Night After Night (1932)
Starring: Mae West, George Raft, Wynne Gibson
Ex-Boxer, Joe Anton buys a high-class speakeasy (an illegal saloon during the Prohibition). Tired of his past, he thinks about selling the speakeasy to leave it all behind. One night he introduces himself to a woman who comes to the speakeasy alone and is completely captivated by her and her motivation to come alone. He tries to hide his past from her, but his ex-girlfriends make this very difficult. Who is the mystery woman? Is he able to get to know her without his ex’s ruining everything?

Send Me No Flowers (1964)
Starring: Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall
Hypochondriac George Kimball is worried he has caught something in the two weeks since his last doctor’s appointment. Worried for his health, he makes an emergency trip and just before he leaves, he over hears his doctor talking on the phone about another patients diagnosis and that he only has a short time left to live.  Thinking the diagnosis is really for him, he starts to plan everything to help her once he’s gone…including finding a new husband. Will she find out his plan? Will he figure out he’s not really dying?

A Street Car Named Desire (1951)
Starring: Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, and Kim Hunter
Blanche DuBois is a fragile and neurotic woman who has come to New Orleans to visit her pregnant sister, Stella. Even though Stella knows she “lost” her home in Laurel, Mississippi she doesn’t know how long she’ll be staying. Blanche also leaves out that was actually exiled for seducing a 17-year-old boy at the school where she taught and the reputation she gained. Stella’s husband, Mitch, knows something is up and does research on his own about his wife’s dear sister. One night he has a bunch of his friends over to play cards one night and his friend Stanley ends up falling for Blanche. They go on a few dates and he decides he wants to marry her, but when Mitch tells Stanley about the kind of woman she really is and he changes his mind. The night Stella goes to the hospital Blanche and Mitch are left alone and get he lets her know that he knows about all of her little secrets. What will happen when they clear the air? Will Stanley change his mind?
