The Gossip Corner with Stine

OMG I am so sorry for this day late post you guys!!! Things have been super crazy for me, I'm in grad school right now which is taking up a lot of my time. The good thing is I remembered! So on to our topics-finishing up the 2012 London Olympics!

The 30th Olympiad was all about Team USA, once again! We took home 104 medals, 46 of them were GOLD and get this, more medals were won by women at these games! Girl Power!! The men didn't do too shabby either but it's just nice to know that we can still do anything they can do (and sometimes better). History was made at these games, with repeat/three-peat victories, new world records, at of course the G.O.A.T (aka Greatest Olympian of All Time-Michael Phelps).

For the first time in Olympic beach volleyball there was an All-American Gold medal match with veterans and 2-time gold medalists Misty May-Treanor & Kerri Walsh-Jennings pitted against their teammates Jen Kessy & April Ross. Misty and Kerri didn't disapoint, taking home their 3rd gold medal! It was bitter sweet because this is (probably) the last time these two will compete in an Olympics together as Misty is retiring, but Kerri is determined to make it to Rio in 2016.

Bottom: Silver Medalists Jen Kessy & April Ross (USA)

Both Men's and Women's basketball teams won gold and thus keeping their Olympic winning streak alive, although it was a very close game for the Men who played a tough Spanish team with a final score of 107-100. The Women cruised pass France to win their 5th straight gold.

The USA Women's soccer team played a great game against Japan and kept their winning score of 2-1 alive for the 4th time. They have won a medal in all 5 Olympics since the sport was introduced, 4 out of 5 are gold. Carli Llyod came off the bench to score the only 2 goals for Team USA.

Moving on to the Closing Ceremony, one word-AMAZING!!!! I love how they decided to celebrate the great things to come out of the UK: music and fashion! Everyone from Jessie J, Taio Cruz, The Who, Russell Brand, One Direction, Annie Lenox, and Madness performed. There was also a really nice tribute to John Lennon with children doing sign language to his song "Imagine". And then there were the SPICE GIRLS!!!! Vicki and I were frantically texting back and forth during their performace because it brought back memories from out childhood. They were awesome and looked and sounded HOT! Super models, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell made an appearance along with some of London's other top models who strutted their stuff.

Closing Ceremony Performances (Google)

Finally I wanted to share Team USA's outfits for the Closing Ceremony since they were different from Opening Ceremony. What do you all think?

I am so sad to see these games come to an end but I can't wait for the winter games in Sochi, Russia (although I do not plan on attending-too cold) and I'm already pumped for Rio in 2016!!! What were your favorite parts of the London Olympics?

True Whit

Sorry for the late post everyone! I had no power yesterday, but clearly I have it back today so here we go!

As you may or may not know, my boyfriend and I recently moved in together! And by recently I mean 3 days ago. This is such an exciting time, and I can’t wait to fully unpack and start decorating! About a year ago I read Whitney Port’s book: True Whit. You may not understand the random connection just yet, but let me explain:

True Whit cover
True Whit is Whitney Port (from The Hills and The City on MTV) wrote a book for us twenty-somethings starting our lives. And if you are about to graduate from college and/or grad school you need to read it! For most of us, this is the first time we are doing things on our own and we’re learning how to balance a real full-time job with friends and love lives. And Whitney Port breaks it all down for us!

Pages from True Whit
There are chapters on how to decorate a home, how to act in a professional work place, style for work and play, how to throw a chic party in your new humble abode, the new adult rules to dating, beauty tips, working out and obvs way more! While I was reading it, I totally felt like one of my friends was telling me all these tips, which was a nice comforting feeling.

A page out of the fashion section
Basically—if you didn’t catch all of my enthusiasm—you should really go read this book! I thought it was so helpful and gave my tons of ideas for how I want this move to go, how I want to be at work and so much more!

Ps I'm still trying to come up with a sweet new name...so let me know what your ideas are!
What have you read recently??

KM Explains it All!

Diaper Cake!

This past Sunday I went to my cousins baby shower.  I found the coolest idea for a gift on Pinterest and had to make it for her.  Diaper cakes can be made into pretty much anything.  I've mostly seen ones made in the shape of carriages or cribs and this was the first time I'd seen one in the shape of a motorcycle.  My cousin isn't finding out the sex of the baby which made it a little difficult to pick a theme but it was something different and seemed easy enough to make.  I found the directions on a fellow bloggers post and they were super easy to follow.  Check out Sweetaprils blog for full directions!

Here are pictures of my final product!

Have you made anything cool lately?  Let me know!

Olympic Zone

USA! USA! USA! Wahoo! I hope everyone has been keeping up with all the Olympic action this past week, it has been a blast to watch. Everything from Gymnastics to Soccer to Beach Volleyball and Swimming, Team USA has been an unstoppable force.

Gymnastics:
Men-lost the team final and only Danell Leyva medalled in the individual all-around (he got bronze). So far they've kinda been disappointing to watch.
Women-this is where the real action is! The Fab Five won the team final picking up only the 2nd gold for the USA since the Magnificent Seven 12 years ago. America's newest sweetheart, Gabby Douglas, took the gold in the individual all-around and Aly Raisman was just inched out by Russia's Aliya Mustafina for the bronze. Yesterday was a bit of a disappointment for McKayla Maroney when she landed her second vault flat on her bum, earning her the silver. There was no medal for the US women in the uneven bars with Gabby the only one competing on that apparatus. They will finish up tomorrow with Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas on balance beam and Jordyn Wieber and Aly Raisman on floor exercise.

Beach Volleyball:
Men-2008 gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers were shut out of the medal contention by Italy. However, there was still hope for a medal if Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal could win their quarterfinal today against Latvia. Unfortunately they got shut out in the 3rd match.
Women-both teams, May-Treanor/Walsh-Jennings and Ross/Kessy are in the semis!! The USA women are just dominating at this Olympics. Misty May and Kerri Walsh are the defending '04 & '08 gold medalists and are favored to win. It will be there last Olympics playing together, Misty says she's done but Kerri might go for Rio in 2016. The semis are tomorrow and final matches for bronze and gold are on Wednesday.

From Top: Dalhausser & Rogers; 2nd: Gibb & Rosenthal; 3rd: Misty May-Treanor & Kerri Walsh-Jennings; Bottom: Jen Kessy & April Ross (Google Images)

Soccer:
Women-they have dominated this entire Olympics, taking out one opponent after another and all while battling injuries. Abby Wambach was even punched in the eye by a player from Colombia! Alex Morgan nicknamed "the Ferrari" by some for her amazing speed down the soccer pitch, accidentally kneed New Zealand goal keeper. Some have also criticized the USA for their celebration routines, as you can imagine the ones complaining are the teams they've beat. They play Canada today and will hopefully go on to the final to play Japan for the gold.

 Swimming:
Women-the future of American swimming is safe with superstars Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer, and Katie Ledecky. Missy seemed unstoppable taking home 5 medals, 4 of them are gold!! Allison Schmitt, who trains with Michael Phelps also took home 5 medals, 3 were gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze. The women were unstoppable in the relays taking home 2 golds and a bronze.
Men-this was basically Michael Phelps's swan song as he is retiring after this Olympics. He got off to a rough start in the 400-IM where his teammate/friend/rival Ryan Lochte took gold. Michael came back though and is now the most decorated Olympian EVER!!! He also has the most gold medals, 18 to be exact and now has 22 medals in all. He three-peated on 2 events the 200M and 100M butterfly-his signature event. It was the perfect way to end an incredible career and we'll probably never have another athlete quite like him. There's still more to come from Ryan Lochte, Nathan Adrian, and Matt Grevers who all took home gold in their individual events.

From Top: Missy Franklin; 2nd: Allison Schmitt; 3rd: Women's relay team after winning gold; 4th: Michael Phelps with his last Olympic medal (gold); 5th: Michael at press conference after last race; Bottom: Men's relay team with their gold medals (Google Images)

There's more to look forward to this week with Men's and Women's Basketball finals, can't wait to see Team USA bring home the gold!
