PLL Season Finale

So Tuesday was the Season Finale of Pretty Little Liars. Honestly I'm still trying to digest what happened in the episode! How can they leave us hanging like this until JUNE?!

I need to think out some ideas, and I'd love to hear what you think too. So let's just start with one thing: Toby's alive! I have such mixed feelings about this, but by the end of the episode I was really happy. My heart seriously broke when he started crying in the hotel room with Spencer. Although I have to admit when they were with Mona in that house in the woods and he said he would "take care of Spencer" for a split second I thought he really was on the A Team. And let me tell you I was getting the pitchforks ready!

Next: Jenna. This girl is always a problem. First of all, someone from the A Team was clearly spying on her, and she was actually afraid. But who, and why? Once A sent the text to meet at that address, she met with Shana in the park. And they were holding hands. New romantic connection? Or Best Friends who are plotting something bigger? Later the new couple pair met Melissa Hastings back at Jenna's house where they talked about luring "those bitches" to the same party Spencer invited the girls to. Uh-oh.

Later the girls are all getting ready for the party at Spencer's house, but really planning on surprising the A Team before they can attack the girls. Problem? They surprise Mona before Red Coat is even there causing all the doors to be locked and Red Coat to start a fire in the house. In a panic Mona admits she doesn't even know who Red Coat is (Com'on girl! Throw us a bone here!) Once they've all been knocked out from the smoke Hanna and Mona see Alison in the Red Coat actually saving them from the burning house. Now I know most of the girls have seen Alison since her murder in some dream or hallucination, but wait?! Was this real life they saw her in?

Once everyone has cleared their head of smoke, the girls and Mona all head back to town where they find Walden's cop car parked in front of the church. No one seemed concerned that the lights and comp were still working despite being in a lake for weeks. They watched the video to see that Jenna and Melissa were the ones who took Walden away from the place Hanna's mom ran him over! Why do they know each other? And what are they planning? But then as they are about the leave, they see something in the trunk! WHAT IS IT?!?!??!

Naturally PLL wouldn't end an episode without some secret moves of a gloved and hooded character. This episodes mystery: a hand popping up out of the dirt spot where Alison's family was going to put a gazebo. We've seen this hand before, but the difference: this time there was a gloved hand to help. What does it all mean??

After watching this episode I was emotionally exhausted. This couldn't have been a better way to end the season. The one down side...having to wait until the June 11th summer premiere. Only 1,948 hours, 18 minutes and 8 seconds. We can do this!

St. Patty’s Day

Unless you are Irish, this day probably means nothing to you. And even to those who are, the original meaning of the day is probably lost to modern activities of heavily drinking Guinness and wearing green everything. (Seriously where did those big green sunglasses and green wigs come from?)  

Of all St. Patrick's Day celebrations, I’m not going to lie, I absolutely love the Parade. I guess I have a weird thing for parades because as I've mentioned I love the Thanksgiving Day Parade too. Growing up in Western Ma, one of the biggest St. Patrick Day Parades marched just a town away. Then when I went away to college and even living in the Greater Boston area now, I get to see another one of the countries biggest parades. I know the meaning has changed and the day no longer means the same to most people, but for me, it’s a day to celebrate my Irish heritage. A heritage I’m very proud to have. Here’s a look back at some past St. Patrick’s Day for me as I look forward to this year. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Trendy, Trendy

Fashion month is officially over, but now is the time to lust over the coming trends.

Black and White: I’m not sure about you but it seemed like the only thing that came down the runway was a black and white combo, or black on black or white on white. I’m obsessed. Black and white is like peanut butter and jelly, Spongebob and Patrick, and your left and right socks. They just belong together! Especially on this runway it is such a simple, classic color combination and yet it feels so fresh.

Boxy/Baggy: It seemed like most of the designers agreed that boxy and baggy are in for the fall. This type style is perfect for layering and I’m not sure about you, but I think layering is an essential in New England. I mean it really gets cold here!

Fur: Fur seems to be a typical go-to when the fall/winter lines show. And normally I’m indifferent to the many styles, but something this year really stood out to me. Maybe because designers used fur more as details than full parts of looks it was less intimidating. This fact could also be why I wasn’t so crazy about Moncler Gamme Rouge line. Just make sure it’s fake fur!

 Leather: I’ve slowly been coming around on leather for a few months now. I believe my new love for it started with a pleated leather skirt, and has continued to grow with every new thing I see. Leather peplum shirt, I think I do need you in my life.

Sheer Cut Out: As I’ve mentioned for what feels like years now, I love sheer. As despite how long it feels like it’s been, I still love the style. So when I saw even more sheer cut outs on the runway I was very excited. It’s such a sexy in a classy way type of look and I’m totally in love.

Paris Fashion Week 2013

Fashion month is officially over. How sad. As usual there were so many great things that came down each runway, but most of them didn’t have me eager for the fall or winter. Well after checking out the looks from Paris Fashion Week, I can say that I am now eager. What a weird feeling, since we are still technically in winter. Regardless, here are my top 4 lines from Paris Fashion Week. (I’m sorry, I couldn’t limit it to 3…they were just that good!)

Hexa by Kuho

     Graphic prints, pops of leather, and a mustard color that doesn’t look like baby poop. Who knew that the combination of those three things would look so good together! The totally trendy pants, sweatshirts, and blazers are something I can actually see myself in, and can’t wait until I am actually wearing them!

Andrew Gn

     I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this designer until this year. But after this show I will def pay more attention! I loved the coats with the three quarter length sleeve and the long gloves which meet at the elbows of the models. I think I need to invest. I absolutely loved both the vibrant and the subtle colors on each look. It’s just so fun for a Fall/Winter look; it makes me look forward to the season so I can wear them!

Jitrois

    Where was PETA when this line was shown on the Paris runway? Well I’m glad they didn’t show up! As much as I do not support abuse of ANY kind towards animals, I loved this line! The colors of the furs and leathers were beautifully displayed in simple silhouettes. The only thing I would change? It would all be fake furs and leathers. Is that so much to ask?

Valentino

      I absolutely loved the lace pieces that either wrapped around the neck or was a chest piece. I’m def still obsessed with little peak-a-boo cut outs which showed up in a few of the looks that came down the runway. And of course it wouldn’t be a Valentino show without some Valentino red.

Book Review: 50 Fashion Designers You Should Know

The cover to 50 Fashion Designers You Should Know

 With Fashion month just about over, this book is perfect for those of you still trying to learn about where designers get some of their inspiration from. The title tells you everything you need to know. It is literally a collection of the top 50 designers you should know, especially if you are going to try and be in the fashion industry. They start us with Jeanne Lanvin and bring us all the way to Stella McCarthy. Not only have all of these designers’ inspired current designers and trend, they were complete innovators for their time. Some of the designs we’ve seen recently never would have happened if it weren’t for one person or another in this book.

I think the best part of this book was finding out a lot about designers that I had heard of but didn’t really know a lot about. I also found out about designers who were very influential, but I had never heard of! If you’re looking to have a go-to guide for the most important designers of the last 100+ years, you need to read this book!

Oldies but Goodies

Another month has come and gone and here we are for more Oldies. I hope you're excited because I have some goodies here for you to see. I hope you enjoy these movies as much as I did!

Pot of Gold (1941)

Starring: Jimmy Stewart, Paulette Goddard, and Horace Heidt

Jimmy Haskell’s music shop is not earning enough money for him to stay in business. His uncle, who hates music, happily helps him pack everything up and move him to his food factory that he owns and runs. The day Jimmy moves to his uncles he becomes friends with the McCorkle family who happen to be members of and house other members of a band. Will Jimmy make it to his uncle’s home? Will his uncle ever like music?

Dark Victory (1939)

Starring: Bette Davis, George Brent and Humphrey Bogart

Judith Traherne is a young socialite who gets painful headaches that lead to vision loss. But she is in complete denial that there is anything wrong. She calls these headaches “hangovers” which is believable due to the amount of parting she does. Her family doctor and a friend is able to convince her to see a specialist and he diagnoses a brain tumor. Surprisingly Judith agrees to undergo surgery and shortly after she wakes from it she falls in love with the specialist, Dr. Frederick Steele. At first Judith is told she will make a full recovery, then she finds out it was a lie. How long does she have to live? What does she do when she finds out the truth?

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

Starring: Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, and Hugh Marlowe

An alien space craft has landed in a baseball field in Washington DC! Not sure how to react the government sends plenty of its military to try and stop whatever may come out. Klaatu is the alien who made the long journey with his robot Gort to send a message to all the nations of Earth. The government officials who meet with Klaatu tell him it is impossible to get all of the nation’s leaders together since most of them do not like each other. Not willing to give up delivering his message Klaatu decides to blend in with the people of DC to learn more about them and figure out a way to deliver his message. What does he learn? Will he get his message across?

Cabaret (1972)

Starring: Liza Minnelli, Michael York, and Helmut Griem

Sally Bowles is an American who sings in a cabaret club called the Kit Kat Klub in Berlin during the 1930s. She meets a man named Brian who is finishing his German studies. The two become friends and eventually lovers until Sally learns that Brian is actually bi-sexual. When Sally becomes pregnant Brian tells her he’d marry her. Will they get married? What sort of problems will they face?

Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is def the shortest of all the fashion weeks. And despite the clear size difference there was still so much amazing styles that came down the runway. Let's not waste anymore time!

Alberta Ferretti
There were tons of black and white down this runway. And I loved every look on it. the bows, lace and velvet were stunning. Take a look:

Emilio Pucci
The short dresses with the funky patterns and cut outs were so interesting I couldn't get enough. And I thought we had moved past the thigh high boot, but I'm glad to see it one more time.

Missoni
I loved the flowing fabrics, the small details were beautiful. I loved the ombre and the cut outs. And the tights were totally adorbs!
