Two of my favorite hobbies are reading and watching movies. Some people would call me a movie freak because of how many I own and how many I've seen. When I hear that a movie is coming out that was either based on a book or supposedly exactly like the book, I have to read it first. I insist on reading first mostly because I am unbelievably impatient and need to know what happened in the story. In most cases the book is much better than the movie could ever be. Is this because when you read you picture your own world and characters so the ones from the movies don't quite measure up? I'd say probably. Here are a few books that I've read that have been made into movies or popular TV shows:

Yes I have read the entire Twilight Saga....more than once...and I must say it really is a good series. While I don't think that it is entirely well written, it is a good story. That being said the books are soooo much better than the movies. New Moon I think was the best adapted of the series and I literally laughed through much of Eclipse. The fight scene was one that I was looking forward to seeing and it was just ridiculously foolish with the over dramatized flashing back and forth between the good and bad vampires while the camera zooms in after each flash....insert laughter here (I don't think the "Twihards" in the audience appreciated that). In most of the movies, there were scenes that I wanted to see that were left out while they made sure to include the cheesier ones. If you're on the fence about this series because of all the "Twi-hards" do not see the movies first. They really just aren't as good as the books. Okay, rant over. I'm anxious to see how they do Breaking Dawn since this is the most "adult" of the series what with the feather flying, headboard breaking, sex scene and the gruesome birth scene. It was my least favorite book but maybe it will be the best movies? Breaking Dawn Part 1 hits theaters this Friday.

Something Borrowed came out in theaters back in may but I read the book about four years ago when it floated through the daycare center that I was working at. I love this book and the ending really makes you think "What would I do in that situation?" Did the movie do the same for me? No, not really. They compeltely cut out one character and added more of another character in probably for the mere fact that it was John Krasinski who played that character. I always enjoy seeing more of Mr. Krasinski but they did add something to his character that wasn't really necessary and was completely off from the book. Again READ THE BOOK FIRST!

I was obsessed with this series this summer and was wicked excited to learn it was being made into a movie. I read the whole series in about a weekend. I love the idea of a dystopian society which is probably why I enjoyed this series so much. It was full of action with a touch of romance, some comic relief, and plenty of interesting characters. When the whole book is based on a fight to the death you know it's going to be good and in hopes that you will read this book let me just say that I was not expecting the ending in the first of the trilogy to go down how it did. In some series, there can be a book that can be considered a "filler" but that is not the case in this series. Each book's plot just adds to the overall series and it's not repeating the same basic plot of "Oh no, someone's after here again! What ever will they do?!" If they put all three books under one binding then it would run together smoothly making complete sense. Here's the first full, official trailer for the movie set to hit theaters this summer.
These are just a few of the great books that have made such an impact on people that caused them to want to attempt to bring these stories to life. While some may succeed in this process others have failed. I will always give both the movies and the books a chance because I like to see if what I imagined matched up with .
What are your thoughts on books being turned into movies? Let me know!!!
