Thirsty Thursday's With Vicki

Halloween Zip Lining Adventures

Just this past week, I went Halloween themed night-time zip lining with my friend Nick for the first time!!! It's something that I've been wanting to do for awhile now but never could find someone who wasn't afraid of heights, and was willing to cough up $65 for the adventure.

After my mom was telling me about her co-worker and how she had gone night-time ziplining in Middletown, CT, I knew that I had to find out more information. During the fall months all the way up until mid November, EMPOWER Leadership Sports and Adventure Center offers a Halloween Themed Night-Time zip lining tour. There are also a number of other types of tours that the company offers, but this one seemed most appealing to us! We were actually supposed to go on Halloween night, but with the crazy storm we had, we had to reschedule it...twice.

The tour we did was about an hour and a half long with 5 zip lines 200-650 feet long! Your about a staggering 75 feet off the ground! But of course since it's dark outside you have no idea how high up in the air you actually are. Since it's Halloween themed the tour includes fun flashy lights, spooky sounds, and some fun festive music. And of course when Lil Jon & The East Side Boys "From The Window To The Wall" came on, I was dancing 75 feet up in the air...

Nick and I had such an awesome time I must say. You legit feel like your flying through the air. And even though it doesn't sound very safe, it actually is. We had two great instructors (very attractive too I might add), who were helpful and there the whole entire way. They showed us how to get in our gear on the ground, and were with us, unhooking and hooking our belts the entire time. They also gave great advice the whole time!

Our Awesome Zip Lining Group all geared up and ready to go!!!

They said that they don't allow any more than 12 at a time to be in a tour just because it allows the time to go by quicker, plus there's only two guides so they have to make sure everyone's accounted for. And when your on each platform waiting to zip-line the whole group needs to fit on the platform so they can be hooked up to the tree. I kinda felt like a dog! haha

Unfortunately since it's night time, it's very hard for the company to take flash photography. I've included some other group's day time pictures so you can get a feel of what the tour is about!

Ziplining was much easier than I thought it would be, atleast for most of it. You basically just have to learn how to guide yourself, tilt backwards into a cannon ball, and just zip along the line. The more you lean back, and tilt your legs in, the further you will go. There were a few times I thought I was going to get stuck on the rope, but I was successful and they never had to save me!

This is pretty much the position you want to stay in while ziplining

But, there was one part of the zip lining I struggled with hard core. There were two different bridges that we had to zip line across. You basically held onto two ropes as rails, and walked along MOVING steps. Yes, I meant moving. The small bridge was a piece of cake. The trick was to walk in the middle of each step. But the long bridge oh dear it was not easy. The trick on this one was to walk like an old person in a walker. Walk with your arms in front and the feet in back, but be sure not to have two feet on the same step. I literally almost gave up in the middle of the bridge. But everyone chanted me on and said not to give up!

The bridge I struggled with hardcore...Looks like this little guy didn't!

Overall, if you've ever thought about ziplining, stop thinking about it and just do it already! Sure the cost is hefty, but it's worth the price... believe me!!!!
